Macclesfield Town crashed to a 6-0 home defeat to Darlington as a second half capitulation let the visitors run riot.

The Silkmen were a goal down at the break and had hit the bar from a free-kick.

The home side scoring what looked like an own goal on a breakaway. At that point the most controversial aspect of the game was the referee’s inability to tell the time, blowing up for half time after just 44 minutes, despite having shown a further two minutes should have been played.

But despite the Silkmen starting the second half brightly, another break, culminating in a 35 yard strike doubled the visitor’s lead and the Silkmen seemed to give up hope.

And three minutes later it was another own goal as Walker put past Jon Brain.

Clarke hit the fourth from the spot which also saw Shaun Hessey dismissed.

With the game over, another long range effort made it five, and the boos rang around the stadium as the sixth went in.
