The Silkmen got back on track away from home by hitting four goals at Chesterfield to beat the Spirites 4-2.

Marting Gritton hit two with Lee Bell and Gareth Evans getting the others.

The scoring could have opened earlier as Danny Thomas made a surging run down the left and whipped a pinpoint cross over to Martin Gritton, but the striker’s header was planted just wide.

He made up for his miss soon afterwards as he took the ball into the area, took a touch to take a defender out of the game and then curled the ball in to the far post.

Lee Bell then scored two minutes later. his persistnce paid off when an attempted clearance hit his legs and rebounded kindly, leaving him through on goal. But he still had a lot of work to do to beat the ‘keeper, and did so brilliantly with an unstoppable dink into the top corner.

With the Silkmen seemingly coasting, the home side took a lifeline. Shaun Hessey misjudged his back header and the sharp Jamie Ward sizzled the ball past Jon Brain from an angle.

The Silkmen managed to get the ball in the back of the net when Nat Brown nodded a looping deflection over the line, but he was flagged for offside.

10 minutes into the second half, with the home side looking more likely to score the next goal, Gareth Evans came on for Simon Yeo. And the Silkmen scored within a minute.

This time Lee Bell was the provider as he chipped a great ball forward and Gritton brought the ball down well to slip it under Carson in the home goal.

But again the lead didn’t last as Ward found the back of the net. Taking the ball on the left of the penalty area, he beat Hessey with a cut-back and powered in again from an angle.

But the Silkmen were not to be outdone and a flick-on by Martin Gritton sent Evans on a chase to reach the ball before the ‘keeper. Getting their first, he lifted the ball up and over, and it sailed into the back of the net.

There was still time for a bizarre double sending off as both Green and Goodhall scuffled after the whistle had goe for an offside.

But another good result, and the top half is now within reach.
