Danny Whitaker has joined Port Vale after accepting a contract offer from the club today.

At Port Vale he will join up with a legion of former Silkmen. Paul Harsley, who signed this summer, as well as George Abbey and Jeff Smith who spent two months on loan at the Moss in the 2001/2002 season.

Speaking to the Port Vale website, Danny said: ‘It didn’t take long to make my mind up. I have just been away on holiday and Martin Foyle has been away too, so that has held it up a bit.

‘I need to step up a division now. I have been at Macclsefield for five years and you gatto the stage when you need a change and hopefully I will do well here.

‘I came down about three weeks ago and spoke to Dean Glover and Ray Williams and afetr speaking to them, everything seemed perfect and I couldn’t fault the place’

Meanwhile the Macclesfield Town official site claims that the club have heard nothing from the player and only discovered the news from the Port Vale website, which will certainly disappoint many people involved with the club.

Danny was the club’s longest serving current player with 170 League games and 23 goals under his belt.

After a stunning first full season where he scored 14 times, the highlight of his Macc career was a 14 minute extra-time hat-trick against Barnsley in the 2002 Carling Cup.
