Macclesfield Town striker Kevin Townson has contacted the PFA after being booted out of the club.

The former Rochdale striker was shown the door by chairman Rob Bickerton last week after being accused of ‘serious misconduct’.

And the player’s crime? He allegedly urinated in a car park. Townson believes he has been made a scapegoat by the financially-stricken club, who have already got rid of a number of backroom staff due to a crisis that has seen the club plunge into debt.

‘I’d been on a two-hour journey to training in the morning,’ Townson told the Manchester Evening News. ‘We came into a car park and I was dying for the toilet.

‘I looked around and there was nobody about, but somebody, must have made a complaint to the club.

‘I went to see the chairman and he handed me a letter which was the termination of my contract. He wasn’t interested in what I had to say.

‘I’ve spoken to the PFA and they’re going to fight my corner. I shouldn’t have done it, but I couldn’t help it.’
