Lincoln City V Macclesfield

Fortune favours the brave they say as goal drunk Crewe know only too well – but football alas; well she favours those with cash. Well not quite, as those with ever half full glasses and followers of league 2 teams will testify, for the law of odds and for that matter sods, suggests some time or other you will get a break to turn the tide.

The Imps side got that yesterday against the Macclesfield Lion heart`s, who, in turn, just never seem to court the whims of Lady Luck enough to come away with the spoils. Perhaps they should offer all the silk in Macclesfield, sufficient to tie up even Rapunzel`s golden hair.

But to the game fellow footy fans to the game?????.
The Imps went into this one against the Maccs, goalless, manager less, but with history – a Houdini hold no less over any spell the Silkmen could throw at them. The Imps were clearly on a mission winning so many corners you felt they could give retail entrepreneur Philip Green a run for his money.

But, much as they huffed and puffed, the House of Silk, like so many beforehand, failed to be blown down. Indeed on shots and clear-cut chances alone Macc had the edge whilst the Imps despite the advantages down the flanks, failed to frighten the crazy gang, it`s patched up defence hanging by a thread.

Draper did well to clear off the line Hamshaw shot wide at the other end after Emile has run almost the entire length of the field to tee him up. Draper then hit one inches over the bar. Hutchinson, a physical presence and a half miscued, but alas for the Imps no one was there to finish it as the ball flashed across the goal.

With just their third shot of the half the Imps made the Silkmen pay for their profligacy with a goal that lifted the weight of the sky itself as the release shot round Sincil Bank. A scrappy affair maybe but you will take anything that could well turn the tide. Jarrett took the free kick Watt headed on and Swaibu slid it home at the far post.

Simmo had clearly done some belief building at half time as the Silkmen sprang from the traps, greyhound Sinclair found Daniel who shot over the bar. After a bright start came a deserved equaliser on 55 from a Chalmers set piece. Tyrone flicked the freekick on and Hamza poked home to show Sincil Bank what they are missing as the Moss Rose maestro grabbed his third in four League games.

Controversy denied Macc a deserved share of the points with a catalogue of decisions going against them. Firstly Hamza was adjudged to have handballed when it clearly hit his chest. The ball was then inexcusably moved umpteen yards forward and into a more central position. It would be sour grapes to deny the quality of Clapham`s, albeit gift wrapped, opportunity. His curling 20 yard inch perfect freekick found the top corner of the Passionistas net.

The Silkmen were in truth hard done by, but then Bogey club`s do that. Lady luck saw to it that Tyrone had his pocket picked as he pulled the trigger and that Emile was denied a certain penalty after being shoved, two handed to the ground. He then went off with a hamstring injury suggesting the winless curse at the Imps was set to continue.
