Macclesfield Town have taken Malta international Luke Dimech on a one year deal.

The player, who was born in Malta, began his career with Silema Wanderers, the same club who once featured Phil ‘Maltese Falcon’ Power amongst their ranks.

He went on to play 136 games for the club, winning the League title in his first season.

In 2002 he moved to Shamrock Rovers, before a short spell with Birkirkara back in Malta and then on to English football with Mansfield Town.

He featured 45 times for Mansfield in two yeas before joining Chester City for the 2005/2006 season. That summer saw him returning to Malta to join Marsaxlokk, who he captained to the League title.

He is also a regular member of the Malta International side after establishing himself in the side in in 1999.

He remains a part of the national side, and featured in Malta’s Euro 2008 Qualifier last month. In all he has played in five of their seven matches in the tournament so far. He also featued against England in a friendly in June 2000. He has played around 50 games for his country.
