Macclesfield Town face a fight for the signature of Danny Whitaker after revelations that several clubs, including one from a higher division, are monitoring the player.

This week’s Macclesfield Express reports that the club have twice offered the player-of-the-season a new deal, he has yet to put pen to paper.

Brian Horton told the paper: ‘I’ve been speaking to his agent, which is the way Danny wants it, and he has told me that there is interest from a side in the League above as well as two clubs in our division. If he were to be offered a deal in League One then he might go there, and I couldn’t blame him’

“We offered him a new contract before the end of the season but he turned it down. We have offered him a new deal, on good money and I’ll have a chat with him in the next week about our plans for the coming season because last year was traumatic.”

Danny himself has stated that he would be glad to stay with the Silkmen, as long as the deal was right.
