Crewe did not need Zola last night, Dario the sage perhaps mindful of his impending move to Bradford City. After Crewe put 5 past the Spireites on Saturday, conceding the same this was always going to be about goals and maybe a comedy of errors or 3.

Were Crewe to continue in the vein of Saturday`s first half, and last nights second, they would brush aside all before them and paint the M6 not so much red as any colour they chose, courtesy of sponsors Johnstone`s Paint no doubt. Given a 33 year old will debut for England this week, you feel there is more than hope for Grant and Moor on last nights showing.

A comedy of errors saw four first half goals with a penalty and three own goals keeping things all square. Blanchett`s looping cross caught out the Cape crusader and Daniel completed the calamity shinning inside his post. Were it not for a fantastic last ditch challenge from Captain Morgan it would have been two. Clearly he has an egg timer and a compass built in, given his exemplary poise, positioning and timing.
In the face of the Railwaymen`s express train, The Silkmen got a slice of fortune to draw level. Bell lost out to Bolland; he fed Hamshaw who whipped one over. Amidst the panic Ada put past his own keeper, although to do the ball justice it warranted an assist if ever there was one. You couldn`t make it up – but the clock had just struck 13.

An effort from Emile was superbly flicked behind by Taylor at the expense of a corner as an end to end affair showed no sign of abating. Murphy beat Veiga but not the bar as the green fingered one turned to catch the ball in his grateful gloves. More then brilliantly roasted, nay routed us, giving Brown little option but to make a dream last ditch tackle or give away a penalty. Former man of Macc, Mister Bell, hammered home the penalty.

Thankfully Ada made things add again with our equaliser. A Chalmers Javelin throw was flicked on by Vinny to Ada who nodded down into his own net. Some 18 yard box geography lessons this morning for that chap me thinks! Moments later Moore skimmed the bar with a glorious drive before Vinny Mukendi fired against the post. Hamza also fired narrowly wide to finish a half where both sides deserved to be level, although the score perhaps nearer 4-4.

Just three minutes after the restart Moore ran riot again, his cross finding Artell who rose highest at The Rose to head home. Crewe never looked back and were rampant with Moore and Joel Grant running the show. They duly doubled the lead with the move of the match. Tootle fed Donaldson who chested down and turned to play infield to Grant who got one over on Morgan before beating Veiga with a fierce drive.

In truth they could have had more but both managers minds had turned to Saturday by then. The Crazy gang can now concentrate on the League as the cliché goes. That looms larger than life in Lincoln.
