A bad night at the office as the Silkmen crash to a 4-0 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers.

It was always going to be a tough night against a side who were unbeaten all season, but the Silkmen let their recent unbeaten run slip away without much of a fight.

Jon Brain had already made two excellent saves by the time the home side took the lead in the 11th minute when Vieira cut in to score from an angle.

The Silkmen eventually changed the formation a bit and started to work their way back into the game with the best chance coming from an ‘over the shoulder’ shot from Martin Gritton, but the game was really over as a contest when the home side added a second.

The Silkmen backed off too much and gave Balanta the space to curl a 25 yard strike into the top corner with seconds of the alf remaining.

And just after the break the Silkmen shot themselves in the foot again as a breakdown of communication between Brain and his defence left Vieira with a simple tap in. But it would be churlish to blame Brain too much, as his saves have been worth points and cup progression for the Silkmen in recent weeks.

The damage was finally done as Johnson reacted quickest to a free kick which Brain did well to save, and had another tap-in.

Bad day at the office all around, and probably best to draw a line under it and look to getting another unbeaten run together.
