For the first Cheshire Derby of the season against Stockport Gary Simpson returned to the side that did so well against the Spireites despite the efforts of those who conjured a first win of the season against Morecambe on Tuesday.

What must a team do to win a match, well not just any match; for things look twice as bad when you fail on your own patch against the local enemy and their travelling hordes.

Twenty two shots were fired in anger, as a penalty miss, three one on ones and wayward headers ensured George Donnelly and Mansour Assoumani strikes mugged the Macc at the Moss. It was painful to watch the Hatters on tour tea party, as they celebrated their first win since February at the table of their local rivals. Revenge they say is twice as sweet and a dish best served cold.

The visitors started the brighter a spring in their step saw Vincent despatch a drive just wide, seconds into the heroics and the hyperbole. A Conlon curler saw Veiga the Macc clad crusader help it the right side of the upright. Hose held a rising rasping drive from Donnelly before the Silkmen had even spun a spell. Daniel duly obliged with a deep cross but Barnett missed it as alas Matt Hamshaw slid into the ball`s slipstream at the far post. Daniel then dragged one well wide when well placed one on one.

Draper took the atmosphere up a notch when he took out Turnbull for a yellow as Macc continued to stamp our authority on the game. Tansey however had a 25 yard effort suggesting County were not dead and buried just yet. After Barnett and Daniel both fluffed chances we were made to pay with just seconds on the clock. Donnelly danced down the line, cut inside and planted a daisy cutter into the far corner through a crowd of players with Veiga unequal to its deceptive curving quality.


Simmo sounded the charge of the light brigade for the second half with Daniel brought down to earth 5 minutes in. Penalty roared the Moss Rose faithful, foster concurred. Sinclair grabbed the ball placed it on the spot strode confidently, struck, but alas Glennon saved his poor effort to the depight of the County fans behind the goal.

The bench and the crowd, unbowed urged the Silken forth into another charge. Nat Brown glanced one inches wide, Barnett had a howitzer blocked and Sinclair again wasted a great chance, this time dragging wide. It was keystone cops up front and typically a sucker punch arrived.


Assoumani showed the craft of a true marksman. Controlling a cross superbly he turned his man and fired home just inside the post from close range. The Silkmen to dominate and carve, yet waste the chances with Hamza and midweek hero Mukendi on to try to make amends.

Alas not as Simmo`s Silkmen left the field boos and fears though definitely not jeers in their ears, shaking their heads as they went. This young chargelings was a one sided affair that clearly got away. We dominated, looked solid at the back for most of the game yet failed to deliver on today of all days
