Pre-season continues with a trip to Southport’s Haig Avenue.

A regular venue in the Silkmen’s conference days, the blues have a good recent record there with some memorable games. The 5-1 win with Steve Payne in goals and coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 both sticking in the memory.

Conference side Southport finished last season in 18th place in the Conference, after winning Conference North the previous year.

Familiar faces for the Silkmen are James Olsen who featured twice for the Silkmen under John Askey and Mark Boyd who played five times at the back end of the Play-off season.

So far this pre-season Southport have drawn 2-2 with Crewe and lost 5-0 to Oldham.

Southport can be reached by taking the M6 to junction 26 and exiting onto the M58. At junction 3, exit and turn right at the roundabout (3rd exit), then left (1st exit) at the next roundabout. Go through the lights at Stanley Gate Inn and follow the road past Edge Hill College into Ormskirk.

Follow signs for Southport A570 to navigate through Ormskirk town centre. Follow the A570 until you reach the large roundabout and Retail Park at the edge of Southport. Tesco’s will be on your left, take the third exit off the roundabout – be aware that this roundabout is a bit of a nightmare to enter and exit!

Follow the road to the first set of traffic lights and turn right. You are now on Haig Avenue.

Southport FC does not have any parking spaces at the ground, so on match day fans park in the roads around the ground. The limited spaces on Haig Avenue itself rapidly fill up, and there are single/double yellow lines and cones on match days so beware of these.
