With Macclesfield away at Wycombe Wanderers this Saturday it looks as if the cavalier carpet football might need to change though not necessarily go. The Gaffer has got the lads heads together and will take a leaf out of the Dutch book perhaps as he changes from 4-4-2 to a more defensive yet fluid formation.

Last night 4-2-3-1 was used, a throw back to the favoured formation of the Germans` Dutch and Brazilian sides in South Africa. There is also the option for 4-3-3 which would utilise Mukendi, Sinclair and Barnett if need be. 4-3-3 was used by the South American sides and can be just as effective against a strong attacking side as a drab 4-5-1, yet allow the early counter.

The side certainly has the players for these options. Paul Bolland has been outstanding since his return and bossed large fazes of games, Draper too has come in brilliantly for Butcher. If only Tyrone Barnett could get one we would see something akin to London buses.

The Silkmen`s heads have not dropped, with the manager and players focused ahead of a tough run of fixtures. They no what they`ve got which aint a lot compared to most but the ability and belief is there.

The money may be tight the league position could be better, but the side has the ability and hunger to climb the table. With a few wins behind them this side could yet give us a season to remember this year.
