Macclesfield Town have moved to snap up Shrewsbury`s 23 year old former Welsh U21 midfielder Jamie Tolley.

Described as an athletic attacking midfielder, Tolley was made captain of the Shrews at just 22 years old. He holds the record for being the youngest player ever to play for the club after making his debut aged 16 years and 193 days as he came off the bench against Oxford in a 2-2 FA Cup draw in 1999.

The following season (2000/2001) after seven substitute appearances for the club, he went on to make his first start, against Southend aged 17.

He quickly went on to become a first team regular, despite his young age and has scored 20 goals in a total of 211 appearances in all competitions including just 25 from the bench.

He made his Welsh U21 debut aged just 18 against Poland where he was the youngest player in the squad. He went on to make 12 U21 appearances, scoring once.

He has spent his entire career to date at Shrewsbury but left the club in the summer. As the player is under the age of 24, the Silkmen have to pay a transfer fee to secure his services. This is understood to be a five figure fee.
