Out went Brisley, Bolland, Hamshaw and the injured Emile Sinclair with Chalmers Daniel, Hamza and Vinny Mukendi in and eager to grasp the nettle. Essentially the changes reflected a need to rest the hard worked midfield, an injury to Emile and Hamza needing match minutes as he finally casts a long injury to the four winds.

Sammy McIlroy made six changes despite the muted two. Out went McCready, Scott, Stanley, Fleming , Duffy and Jevons in came, Spencer, Drummond, Mullin, Parrish, Haining and Hunter the only supposed doubt before the game.

Mukendi or should we say Vin`s grin is as infectious as Cup fever can get; but in reality the Maccs management were just happy with a win, any win, for this was more about a need to smile than style as the Silkmen white washed the doom and gloom away in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy. After toil and struggle and the Accy debacle had burst the bubble some justice and the hands of Jose certainly lifted the Silkmen`s season at a sparsely populated Moss Rose yesterday evening.

Veiga was a goal line Gremlin after midnight as he gobbled up the Shrimps strikers for breakfast dinner and tea. Maccs were the first to strike, as Vinny went close gathering Barnett`s deft flick to drive a bouncing bomb past the upright. Barnett then made the most of some hesitant defending with a howitzer from 25 yards that again sailed just wide.

On 12, Jose palmed a point blank headed excoset from Shuker over the bar. Closer still – all of six yards out this time – saw Shuker shake his head as Veiga again clawed his header back from the statisticians grasp. Again the former Silkman failed to stitch his old club as Veiga came to the rescue again.
Mark Duffy then shot high and wide as the brilliantly animated bench urged Macc to get a foot in lest they get one and a route ensue. Barnett should have made the visitors pay for their profligacy heading just over from a Chalmers` corner. The front two were linking well although you would have preferred Vinny to be on the end of one as opposed to Tyrone who dragged his snapshot well wide.

Vinny would at last be the scoring Silkmen, spinning a yarn as he stole a yard. An even match now entered the embers of the opening half as the winner came. It was a direct goal but not without some style to match its guile. Veiga hit into the Moss Rose sunset and Hamza won the midfield aerial battle to head on. The refreshingly brilliant Barnett, clearly celebrating his recent contract extension, then flicked to Mukendi and the chase was on as he roasted the chestnuts before making no mistake, rifling from range.

The second half saw Morecambe continue to miss more than a high street bank auditor. Mullin sliced wide from two yards and Wilson showed the frustration, nay desperation as he pushed Chalmers from the very field of play – luckily for just a yellow. Mukendi was a constant threat being fouled just outside the box by the keeper at one point. Chalmers alas hit that one straight at the wall – count them lad count them!

With 20 minutes to go Bolland came on for Chalmers to see out the game and we did just that, using the energetic match winner as the outlet. Vinny Mukendi showed time and again that he appears to have the control to match his pace, enthusiasm and strength. This was personified with a cushion touch and a through ball that saw Barnett hare down the middle but alas plant a porridge disturber of a drive just wide. Doubtless it is still speeding down the London Road as we speak.
