Macclesfield 3-0 Shrewsbury

The Silkmen put their winless run behind them with a 3-0 victory over promotion chasing Shrewsbury.

An own-goal, an Evans penalty and a late strike from Nat Brown gave the Silkmen the victory.

The opening goal came from a free-kick which was played into the box by Lee Bell, only for Shane Candell-Sheriff to flick the ball past his own ‘keeper.

Gareth Evans could have doubled the score when he raced clean through, but Luke Daniels in the Shrews goal saved well.

The second goal came less than 10 minutes into the second half when Simon Yeo broke free in the box, and was hacked down by Ben Herd. A covering defender spared him a red card, but Gareth Evans made no mistake from the spot.

Grant Holt, taking a moment off from kicking and shirt-pulling, should have reduced the Silkmen’s lead but fired wide from six yards.

But the Silkmen sealed the win in injury time when Jordan Hadfield’s inch-perfect through-ball found Nat Brown, who took the ball past Daniels and slotted hom to make it 3-0.

With some fans supposedly boygotting the game, it was a perfect reply to the recent bad run of results.
