The Silkmen were beated 2-0 at home to AFC Bournemouth, but the result was overshadowed by the news that manager Keith Alexander had been taken to hospital.
Although he was later given the all-clear, it was not idea preparation for an important home game and the younger players were reportedly shell shocked.
Lee Bradbury scored both goals for the visitors with two far-post strikes.
The only high-points for the Silkmen came with the performance of young John Rooney on the right wing who showed determination and skill. One run saw him jink past two defenders to cut into the box and curl a shot inches over the far corner.

Another bad home defeat. You’re getting dragged down into that dogfight.
I wish the headline score was right, but sadly thats not true.
