The Silkmen put in a fantastic performance to beat Championship side Blackpool 2-0 at the Moss Rose.

The home side had to weather the storm in the first half as Blackpool carved out plenty of chances but were entirely unable to convert.

And so it was the Silkmen who took the lead against the run of play. Shaun Brisley, who has looked impressive in his short time in the secnior squad, getting forward well and poking the ball home through the legs of Blackpool’s ‘keeper.

The Silkmen were the bestter side in the second half and Matrin Gritton doubled the lead. But not until there had been some controvercy.

Terry Dunfield was headbutted by Blackpool’s Kieth Southern, who was red carded. But the Macc crowd was amazed to see Terry also given a red card. Especially as the Silkmen were given the free kick after the incident.

But that kick would prove decisive as Blackpool failed to clear, and Marton Gritton forced home from close range.

Macc could have extended their lead with a couple of dangerouns breaks, particularly down the left when Ahmed Deen and Danny Thomas combined well, and later when Franny Green shot narrowly wide from long range.

But Blackpool would never be able to carve into the Silkmen’s defence.

A great win for the Silkmen and the perfect tonic following the 4-0 defeat at Shrewsbury.

Why doesn’t the poll for where you will finish have a ‘there or thereabouts’ option?
