The Silkmen won their first pre-season game of the campaign against a mixed Derby County side.

Danny Thomas scored the winner for the Silkmen with a great individual effort, but there were encouraging performances across the park.

Derby, who included John Macken and Tyron Mears in their ranks, couldn’t break down the Macc defence, even when the back line was made up of what most would consider fringe players.

Danny Swailes was probably the man of the match as he dominated a first half against his higher division opposition.

Danny Thomas scored the only goal of the game early on after recieving the ball 10 yards outside the area and somehow getting past three players before shooting on the turn to the bottom right corner.

the Silkmen continued to play well and use their pace to cause Derby problems.

the second half saw the usual raft of subs from the Silkmen, but even the younger players managed to keep Derby at bay. Triallist ‘keeper Matt Baker possibly earning himself a deal with a marvellous double save.

Jimmy McNulty and Matt Flynn impressed at centre back, and Izak Reid did well on the right flank.
