League two round-up: 2nd-5th September 2011

The latest weekend of the football league season has been and gone, the npower league two is rounded-up in this article.

AFC Wimbledon 3-2 Port Vale
An injury time winner secured the points for AFC Wimbledon on Saturday. Midson (40), Gwillim (60) and the late, late winner from Jolley (90+5) were all on target for the home side. Vale’s goal came from Dodds (46) and Morsy (84).

Aldershot 1-0 Cheltenham
Hylton’s (72) goal in the 2nd half was enough to secure Aldershot a 1-0 win at home against Cheltenham.

Barnet 0-0 Accrington
Despite having two players sent off, Barnett (43) and Long (90+5), Accrington managed to come away from Barnet with a point after a goalless draw at Underhill.

Burton 2-1 Plymouth
Burton inflicted more misery on struggling Plymouth with a home win at the weekend. Richards (45+2) and Zola (57) scored for the hosts with the visitors netting an injury-time consolation through Atkinson (90+1).

Crawley 4-1 Bristol Rovers
Quite a response from Crawley, after their first league defeat in more than 30 games, as goals from Barnett (14 & 84), Smith (28) and Tubbs (74) helped secure a 4-1 win over Bristol Rovers, with Brown (80) scoring for the visitors.

Crewe 3-1 Oxford
Crewe managed to secure another win at the weekend; goals from Miller (30 & 37) and Leitch-Smith (65) had them in control before a late consolation for Oxford from Davis (77).

Gillingham 0-1 Shrewsbury
A game destined for a goalless draw saw Gillingham literally ‘pay the penalty’ deep into injury-time! A Wroe (90+4) penalty secured Shrewsbury an away win.

Hereford 1-0 Dagenham
A first league win of the season was secured by Hereford at the weekend. A late Winnall (85) goal gave them a 1-0 win over Dagenham.

Morecambe 1-1 Bradford
Reid (57) looked to have secured Morecambe a home win but a late injury-time equaliser from Hannah (90+3) meant that Bradford went home with a share of the spoils.

Southend 2-2 Northampton
Southend, after goals from Bilel (27) and Hall (59), let a two goal lead slip, having to settle for a 2-2 draw after Akinfenwa (60) and Davies (65) saw Northampton fight back to earn a point. The Cobblers also had McKoy (90+3) sent off in injury-time.

Swindon 3-2 Rotherham
An entertaining game at The County Ground saw Swindon edge out Rotherham 3-2. Ritchie (39), Connell (69 & 81) scoring for the host, Revell’s (21 & 65) double for The Millers. Both ended with 10-men after Swindon’s Comazzi (85) and Rotherham’s Schofield (68) saw red.

Torquay 3-0 Macclesfield
Torquay secured a home win after goals from Saah (63), McPhee (75) & O’Kane (90) saw The Gulls through to a 3-0 win over Macclesfield.
