League two round-up: 19th November 2011
The latest weekend of the football league season has been and gone, the npower league two is rounded-up in this article.
AFC Wimbledon 1-1 Swindon
Having looked on course to win for much of the game AFC Wimbledon had to be content with a home draw against Swindon in the end.
Early in the first half Hatton (6) gave Wimbledon the lead, which was taken into half time and beyond.
With time running out, and a win looking likely, Swindon struck through Connell (73) to secure a 1-1 draw.
Aldershot 1-2 Gillingham
Aldershot suffered a home defeat against Gillingham.
Nouble (7) and Whelpdale (36) had Gillingham in control at half time before Davies (81) gave Aldershot hope late on but an equaliser could not be found so the visitors won 2-1.
Bradford 2-3 Rotherham
Rotherham won 3-2 at Bradford, although an injury-time goal left the scoreline closer than it might have seemed.
A Grabban (22) penalty had Rotherham in the lead but Mitchell (34) levelled for Bradford before the break. Two goals in six-minutes early in the second half from Revell (51) and Marshall (57) left the visitors in control. Flynn’s injury-time penalty (90+2) was not enough for the hosts.
Bristol Rovers 0-2 Barnet
Bristol Rovers suffered a disappointing home defeat to struggling Barnet.
A goal from McLeod (19) looked like it would be enough to give Barnet the win, but to make sure Byrne (90+8) struck deep, deep into injury-time to secure a 2-0 win.
Cheltenham 2-0 Port Vale
Second half goals were enough to give Cheltenham a home win over Port Vale.
After the goalless first half a penalty from Duffy (55) and a goal from Summerfield (69) were enough to give the hosts a 2-0 win.
Crawley 4-1 Oxford
Home advantage paid off for Crawley with an impressive 4-1 win secured over Oxford.
An early double from Barnett (4 & 14) had Crawley in control but Constable (30) pulled one back for Oxford on the half hour. A first half injury-time goal from Drury (45+3) and a second half strike from Howell (52) gave the hosts the point though.
Dagenham 2-3 Southend
A five-goal thriller was eventually won 3-2 by league two leaders Southend at struggling Dagenham.
Much sought after, and rated, youngster Ferdinand (8) gave Southend an early lead but Dagenham soon equalised through Montano (13). The visitors were ahead again though before half time when Dickinson (33) scored.
The hosts drew level once more when Ogogo (49) scored early in the second half but The Shrimpers secured all three points when Ferdinand (64) struck again just after the hour.
Hereford 2-3 Burton
An amazing end to the game saw Burton come away from Hereford with an unlikely victory!
A penalty from Purdie (19) had Hereford ahead but Burton were soon level when Zola (24) scored, but the hosts still went into the break ahead when Barkhuizen (34) restored Hereford’s lead.
With defeat looking likely an injury-time goal from Webster (90+1) looked to have salvaged the Brewers a point but there was still time for Kee (90+3) to complete the comeback and hand Burton a 3-2 win.
Macclesfield 1-1 Accrington
Macclesfield could not hold onto a lead as Accrington fought back to secure an away point.
Brisley (20) had given Macclesfield the lead but a goal from Stockley (78) 12-minutes from time secured Accrington a 1-1 draw.
Morecambe 1-2 Crewe
Crewe fought back from a goal down to secure an injury-time win at Morecambe.
Neither side could break through in the first half but midway through the second Ellison (69) gave Morecambe the lead. Powell (79) looked to have salvaged Crewe a point 11-minutes from time but this point became three when Clayton (90+5) struck in injury-time to give the visitors a 2-1 win.
Northampton 2-7 Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury came away from struggling Northampton with an amazing 7-2 win!
Two from Wright (18 & 40) and another from Gornell (44) had Shrewsbury in control at half time. Tozer (49) gave Northampton hope early in the second half but an amazing six goals in the final 10-minutes, five from the visitors, saw Shrewsbury run out comfortable winners.
Morgan (82) made it 4-1 before Akinfenwa (85) pulled another back for the hosts but further goals from Collins (88), Jacobson (90+4) and an own goal from Langmead (90+6) rounded things off.
Torquay 3-1 Plymouth
Torquay secured the bragging rights with a home win over struggling Plymouth.
No one could breakthrough in the first half but two goals from O’Kane (47 &49) early in the second half put Torquay ahead with Stevens (69) making this comfortable. Atkinson (78) pulled one back for Plymouth but they ended up losing 3-1.
