Grimsby v Macclesfield Town

Saturday sees the curtain come down on the Silkmen’s season as they head to Grimsby’s Blundell Park for their last game of the 2008/09 campaign.

With the Silkmen have secured their League Two status, it will take a minor miracle for their hosts to slip into the bottom two places. Whilst Chester can equal the Mariners’ point total, their goal difference is vastly superior, to the tune of twenty goals.

Both clubs will be looking to end their season on a high with the Silkmen coming into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Barnet, thanks to a late goal from Kris Dennis. Meanwhile Grimsby come into the game with a 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth behind them. A game they finished with nine men after red cards for Widowson and Boshell.

This was only their second defeat in seven matches, a spell which has included 3-0 wins over both Gillingham and Port Vale.

But the Silkmen will be missing Shaun Hessey (pictured), Simon Yeo, possibly Lee Bell and Shaun Brisley, with Emile Sinclair having returned to Forest.

Keith Alexander said to the club’s official website:

‘We’re struggling to get 16 fit first team players if the truth be known. A few of the lads may have to take pain killing injections to play.’

‘It’s far from ideal especially as we wanted to go out there and put a performance on for the fans. They’ve had a tough time these past nine months and a win tomorrow would be a big boost, having also beaten Barnet last week.’

‘We just need one last effort from everyone.’
