A late goal for the home team beat off a Silkmen side unlucky to end the game with nothing.

The Silkmen had fallen behind early on as Calvin Zola took advantage of some stuttering Silkmen defending to head home from a corner.

Macclesfield had a string of chances as Colin Daniel squandered a host of opportunities in front of goal.

But the Silkmen were celebrating when Ricky Sappleton hit his first goal for the club. Latching on to an inch perfect Ross Draper through-ball he kept an eye on the advancing ‘keeper and rolled the ball past him from the corner of the area. The covering defender couldn’t quite make it in time and the ball hit the back of the net.

Inthe second half Crewe were cursing their luck when a free-kick hit the crossbar and seemed to have bounced over the line.

But despite the Silkmen having the majority of the posession, Crewe won the game with a long-ball over the top that Joel Grant slotted past Veiga.
